I noticed that the previous pull request was pointing always to the latest master, which is not what I intended. So here is one special branch with only 2to3 related changes.

Sorry, I dropped this for a while. This PR doesn't work in py3, as far as I can tell; it's missing changes to a bunch of files (eg, acq2mat.py and acq_info.py both import StringIO and require six).

I'm working on a version that works; I'll look at your earlier PR for changes.

OK, I've made everything work to my satisfaction. Merged! And thank you again for your help.
