systray icons do not appear in recent GNOME Shell #86

Even using TopIcons or KStatusNotifierItem/AppIndicator Support Yad systray icons do not seem to appear. Did recent GNOME Shell remove functionality that Yad depends on? Is there any alternative?

i'm not sure who is the causer for this issue. yad uses gtk api GtkStatusIcon for creating systray icons. GTK guys mark that api as deprecated so maybe this question must be addressed to the GNOME maintainers too

I assume the GNOME maintainer response would be that it's a deprecated api so wontfix.
