Another of those songs which I myself contributed to the ISB only to discover missing lines later. Back in 2002 I either didn't know the lyrics to part 2 or didn't know it existed at all. A very lovely song, so I'm glad to have more of it. 😁 It's also one of the exhibits for my oft-stated case that Sulakshana Pandit really did know how to sing. She won the Filmfare award for this one, IIRC. Excellent here, though not her best; she sounds better in a rather lower key. That's up to Khaiyyam, I suppose.

Apparently at one point, Sulakshana asked Lata to please let her sing her own songs. But when Lata subsequently tried to refuse songs for some Sulakshana movie, the producer said that if Lata would not sing for her, he would replace Sulakshana as the heroine. Sigh. When people complain about the Mangeshkar monopoly, I often wonder why anybody would want to have more songs by Hemlata, Sharda, etc., but then I remember Sulakshana and think that perhaps they have a point.

I generally agree about Sulakshana but I found her a bit shrill here (the audio quality of the Youtube made it worse). Surprised to learn that Kaifi wrote it.
