Cherry-picks from main branch to 1.0 #103

This PR cherry-picks some fixes from main to the 1.0.

~Some commits included unrelated changes so the cherry-pick has brought in also some API for V24 (NPM), manual fine-tuning is needed to remove these.~

I removed the cherry-picks that need manual changes, we'll issue new PRs for them.
