lights and shadows

pressure control
underscanding light and value transition (full blown semester course)

NO REQUIREMENT FOR AESTHETIC SHADOWS IN EXAM

just annotate the shadows

SHADING TECHNIQUES

hatching
cross-hatching: this is prefered in design sketches
smudging: not values in design and art
stippling: dots, takes time

diagnol lines in hatching: considered alive (horizontal and vertical lines are dead lines)

Q. draw/ annotate shadow

find shadow vanishing point (vertical drop to horizon line)
project lines to from light source to edges of the object
project lines from shadow vp to vertical drop from respective edges
extent prjection until the light-shadow edge points meet
join the outline of the meeting points
shade the insides of boundary

convert complex shapes into simple shapes to ease shadow projection don't forget: parts of object cast shadows on itself look beyond the obvious
