CI test fails only for Python=3.9 #99

test fail - used to fail for Python=3.8 and 3.9 only but we have now dropped support for 3.8 (see #98 ) so this tells me this is having to do with typing. I'll have a look tomorrow :+1:

ah the beauty of leaving an issue to its own ends, hoping it'd fix itself over long enough time - it did here :laughing:
