Incorrect version #145

I started the server and went and configured the settings for the server and then told it to sync to the clients but not for it. When I tried to join the server it said incorrect version.

@myxxmikeyxx can you post a screenshot of your "server - install valheim plus" folder and "valheim_Server_Data" foldre?

I am also getting incompatible version when trying to start up, the config file is the only thing we touched. server is hosted by HostHavoc.

@Tahrngarth you'll have to ask HostHavoc to update your server, Valheim just released a patch and your client probably updated but not the server

The server side is also 0.9

ok, running the update on the server again, I ran it yesterday and we were able to play on it after it came out

I will try it today, I have even busy with work and school and have not been able to do anything. My server and game updated yesterday while I was writing a paper so I will check it out on the updated version

NOTE - The server is running with V+ and I can join when I do not have V+ installed. Then I tried to install V+ on my client and got the incorrect version. I did just download the new release before trying it. I did update the server and the client and installed new on the server just to make sure. I also did the same for the client. As I said I tried the server before installing it on the client to see if it worked with the do not force V+ setting and it did. Then I tried installing it and that when the error happened.

UPDATE I copied the server config file over to my client and the tried to join and it worked.! The crow showed up and the furnace settings are all changed.

Any idea why this happened? In the update to 0.9 it says that the config should be pushed to the client. Do I need to have enforceMod=true? If I do that then will the config file be pushed? And if so that makes it so others without it cant join as it says bellow.

NEW Server Config & Version Control (About Version Enforcement) [0.9+] As soon as you join any server that is running 0.9 or later you will be able to automatically receive the configuration of the server. You do not need to do any additional steps. By default the enforceMod=true setting is enabled, if you turn it off you can join unmodded server. If a server has enforceMod enabled only people with the correct v+ version will be able to join.

I'm seeing this exact same behavior. Not having a config file on my local client prevents the mod from loading at startup. Putting a config with Enforce=true causes the incompatible version error despite it being the same config as the server. Enforce=false and everything works as expected.

@myxxmikeyxx @Jake-Etherflow you have to have valheim_plus.cfg file on your client even if it gets overwritten by the server. I'm closing this issue since @myxxmikeyxx's issue seems to be solved, if anyone else is continuing to see this, please open a new issue.

The issue is not solve but okay. I have found a work around but it is not syncing the config file form the server the the client. If you have a copy of the server config then you can copy it and replace the client one.


THIS IS POSSIBLE IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THE SERVER So anyone joining a V+ server and doesn't have access to a copy of the server config and their client config file does not match the servers exactly then they will get the incorrect version.
