Dual monitor - unplug, replug - taskbar icons (on 1st monitor) get lost #3329

Open ewillner opened 4 months ago

ewillner commented 4 months ago

If I unplug the second monitor, all is good. However, when I plug the second monitor back in, all of the taskbar icons for active apps disappear. In order to make them reappear, I need to alt-tab and briefly bring up each application that was lost.

I am on version 22621.3527.65.1 (though this has been happening for a long time - and many prior versions)

Windows 11 OS Build 22631.3593

Display settings - Extended

Let me know if any other information is needed.

And thank you for this wonderful app.

Try the latest pre-release: https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher/releases/tag/22621.3527.65.5_6f6666b

Hmm - let me change the answer. After a few minutes, the rest of the icons reappeared on their own. Doesn't happen right away, but definitely better. I could live with this.

If that "wait time" is adjustable, I could fiddle with it, but definitely better now.

Thanks for the quick response.

Unplug the monitor and then plug it back in.

Let's see if there's any crashes:

  1. open up windows event viewer or computer management
  2. go to Event Viewer and go to Windows Logs -> Application

See if there's any entries where a crash happens.

ewillner commented 4 months ago

Nothing in the logs.

And, this time after the unplug/plug the icons didn't come back even after a delay (it has now be over 5 minutes).

Please wait for a developer to respond.

I discovered a quicker way to restore the icons. I can toggle the weather display - then the icons come back. Also restarting EP restores the icons, but then I lose the open window's explorer windows.

Restarting file explorer fixes the issue for me.
