Hello to the ExplorerPatcher team, First of all, I want to congratulate you on the much-anticipated return of the Windows 10-style taskbar in version "22621.3880.66.4". I have been eagerly waiting for this feature, and I sincerely thank you for your work. It's a highly appreciated improvement! However, I've noticed a few small points that could be improved. Firstly, the notification area and the preview of open applications do not yet seem to be translated into French. It’s a minor detail, but it contributes to the user experience. Additionally, I've noticed another small issue when I modified the Alt+Tab switcher to revert to the classic version. Even though both my screen reader and Windows are configured in French, when switching windows, the announcements are still in English (e.g., "1 of 2" instead of "1 sur 2"). This used to work fine in French, so I wanted to bring it to your attention. I tested this version on Windows 11 LTSC 24H2 in a virtual machine. My main concern is with the Windows 7-style command bar (with File, Edit, View, etc. menus) in File Explorer. This bar doesn't seem to function properly or works intermittently. I use the SysListView32 feature, but I encountered the issue even when it was disabled or never activated on the current installation. Most of the time, when the Windows 7 command bar is selected, the "File", "Edit", etc., menus do not appear; only the system menu with "Close", "Minimize", "Maximize", etc., is visible. Curiously, sometimes, the menus do appear correctly, but only for a few seconds after the machine starts. I have conducted several tests on different installations, deleted, and recreated the virtual machine several times to test, but unfortunately, I encountered this issue each time with the Windows 7 command bar. Personally, I am much more comfortable with this command bar than with anything else, which is why I would be extremely grateful if you could find a solution. Thank you in advance for your attention and for all the exceptional work you do to improve our Windows experience. Best regards, Mathieu

I'm going to separate this out into paragraphs to make it easier to read:

Hello to the ExplorerPatcher team,

However, I've noticed a few small points that could be improved.

Firstly, the notification area and the preview of open applications do not yet seem to be translated into French. It’s a minor detail, but it contributes to the user experience.

Additionally, I've noticed another small issue when I modified the Alt+Tab switcher to revert to the classic version.

This goes over to not enable SysListView32: https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher/issues/2708

It also mentions the disappearing menu bar bug you said here.

Please post windows version and build. You can find this by running winver. Please include if you are running x86-64 or Arm. Please post explorer patcher version.

Please include what settings you changed in explorer patcher properties application. These should be screen shots. If you can, please change it to english first.

Please include any other software you have installed that modifies the UI of windows.

Hello, First of all, thank you for your quick response regarding my issue. I would like to provide the requested information to help you better understand the situation. My test virtual machine is running Windows 11 LTSC 24H2, x86 64-bit version, with build 26100863. I recently tested the new version of ExplorerPatcher, 22621.3880.66.5. This is a fresh installation of Windows 11 LTSC, and the system is activated. Besides that, I have only installed Open-Shell version 4_4_191 to customize the Start menu with two columns in the Windows XP style. That’s the only modification I’ve made to my environment. In ExplorerPatcher, the only option I activated is the Windows 7-style command bar. All other settings remain at their default values. I would also like to reiterate a point I mentioned earlier. I noticed that the notification area and the Windows 10-style taskbar you implemented are not fully translated into French, including the preview of open applications. I would like to know if a translation of these elements into French is planned in a future update. Additionally, with this fresh installation, the simple Alt+Tab switcher no longer seems to work. Only the Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows NT-style Alt+Tab switchers seem to function correctly. However, I noticed that the Windows NT switcher no longer indicates the number and position of each open window as it did before. For example, when I press Alt+Tab, it no longer says "window 1 of 3," etc., as it used to. I apologize for not being able to provide screenshots. As a visually impaired user, it is very difficult for me to generate and verify screenshots. Additionally, I apologize if my message lacks clarity. I have to translate my messages and your responses because I do not speak English. I remain at your disposal for any further information or clarification needed. Thank you again for your assistance. Best regards, Mathieu

What if you uninstall Open Shell and reboot? Does the alt+tab switcher now work?

dj-access commented 2 weeks ago

Hello, I managed to get my Alt+Tab switcher working with a registry modification. Here is the content of my .reg file: reg Copier le code Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer] "AltTabSettings"=dword:00000000 This gave me exactly what I wanted. The only remaining issue is the Windows 7-style menu bar. Even with Open-Shell uninstalled and only the Windows 7-style command bar checked, it works partially. One time, when opening File Explorer in "This PC," I saw the File, Edit, View, and Tools menus. Every other time I opened File Explorer, I only saw the system menu.

is this it? https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher/issues/2701

From what I understand, the discussion link you mentioned refers to the classic address bar in Windows 11. However, I am not talking about the address bar—I am specifically referring to the Windows 7 menu bar, the one with File, Edit, View, Tools—the classic menu bar. When I check this option (Windows 7 menu bar), unfortunately, only the system menu appears most of the time. I did see the menu bar working once, but it only lasted for a short time, so I imagine and hope that it will be possible to restore it permanently. I truly hope this feature will be fully restored in a future update, as the ribbons and the Windows 11 bar are not practical for me to use. Thank you for your help.
