UWP apps not shown on the taskbar when using Windows 10 Start menu and EP on Insider Preview (22563.1) #973

I believe the UWP apps such as Mail, Calendar, Snipping Tool are not shown in taskbar in Windows 11 when using explorer patcher and the windows 10 startmenu. Kindly fix, thank you :)

ghost commented 2 years ago

Thank you for this amazing app, kindly note I am on Dev build 22563

valinet commented 2 years ago

Okay, so I checked it out. It's because when the Windows 10 Start menu is enabled, I redirect explorer.exe to using a legacy version of AppResolver.dll which is needed so that pinning stuff from File Explorer windows works for the Start menu.

There's no easy fix. It's why I am against using old versions of libraries, stuff like this can happen. The correct fix is to see whether the AppResolver.dll shipped with the respective OS build still offers the code path for when the old Start menu is used and attempt to activate that.

Yeah, a fix will come at some point, probably.

ghost commented 2 years ago

So, you are saying that you are not able to get the apps to be shown in the taskbar? It only seems to be not working for UWP apps, the other apps are showing correctly though.

Does this effect stable build too?

ghost commented 2 years ago

Also note that the Mail App, UWP apps do show in the startmenu just not in the taskbar, Word, Edge, Office all show in the taskbar

valinet commented 2 years ago

Stable build is fine, that's where I test EP. I would have noticed this.

More details about AppResolver.dll here: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/new-version-of-explorerpatcher.1991/post-96773

I would like to point out that right after installing the patches, the taskbar is in windows 10 mode but the startmenu is the 11 one.

Also in Windows 11 taskbar mode it also not show the icons.

Is there a way to use the Windows 10 Startmenu but keep the windows 11 taskbar with icons present?

valinet commented 2 years ago

I explained above what happens. As I said, I will fix it at some point. Use an older build, before support for pinning from Explorer was added. The thing is pre-release, regressions may happen and I can't fix them instantaneously.

ghost commented 2 years ago

Ah, I see, thanks. Have a wonderful day! Do let me know when fixed

ghost commented 2 years ago

How come the screenshot I saw in the fourm of user on the same build has mail app in taskbar? https://www.elevenforum.com/t/new-version-of-explorerpatcher.1991/post-96187 is it cause my display language is in French?

valinet commented 2 years ago

Man, you want to understand what I explain or not? I explained above what happens. French or not, has nothing to do with it. I am working on something at the moment and is very disturbing to get a message every 2 minutes.

ghost commented 2 years ago

Sorry, I fully underrstand now

valinet commented 2 years ago

Fixed in latest pre-release

ghost commented 2 years ago

Hi,

Thanks for fixing it though anything higher than 22563 will not work with explorer patcher, the explore just keeps restarting and its broken :(

thanks,

Shawn

valinet commented 2 years ago

That's probably something else. Investigating with a debugger could prove very useful, there was someone else who mentioned this earlier. I personally don't use Insider Preview builds, testing on it is not feasible.

ghost commented 2 years ago

I see, can you provide me steps to do to provide you the log files or diagnostics to help you solve the issue? Yes, I do understand and I am in no rush.

Thanks :)

ghost commented 2 years ago

It seems the taskbar is now showing though the startmenu will not open, do you have the file explorer path to where the patcher settings are or how to do so through Windwos search? thanks

valinet commented 2 years ago

Updating Windows is painfully slow, it's 5x quicker to reinstall the VM... What a waste of time.

ghost commented 2 years ago

Will try editing the resgistry, thank you :)

ghost commented 2 years ago

Well the startmenu will not open now, so I would like to ask that you provide me the file location of the Explore Ptacher Properties so I can open it

ghost commented 2 years ago

Hi, it seems that the registry that explorer patcher has by default tries to use the Windows 11 Taskbar and the Windows 10 Startmenu wchi is causing the issues

valinet commented 2 years ago

I solved the 2 bugs, stand tight, I will publish an update very soon.

valinet commented 2 years ago

I have pushed the commits, the update should pop up soon. There were quite a few bugs, indeed. From CHANGELOG:

ghost commented 2 years ago

I see, thank you for your quickly update :) Will try and let you know if it works, thank you very much for helping me get my windows 10 all screen app live tiles back!!!!!

ghost commented 2 years ago

I am happy to report the issue has been solved and I can have the beautiful Windows 11 taskbar with windows 10 all screen live tiles!

Is there any way to get the "big" tiles to be together as it seems there is a limit and it dosen't let me make a row of stuff to the right.

ghost commented 2 years ago

I know this is a big ask but is there any way to get the Windows 8 Startmenu on here or is that a 100% no go? As I prefer the Windows 8 menu style, thanks.

Well I would like it if it would be just a row of icons that go from left to right not top to bottom

ghost commented 2 years ago

Also, is there a way to reset the default Windows 10 Layout when I already customized it in the startmenu, so ti will show the Edge, Office, store and the other apps? Sorry for the long messages :(

valinet commented 2 years ago

You’re welcome.

ghost commented 2 years ago

Have a wonderful day! If you can, do consider my request for the Windows 8 Startmenu as I prefer it to the tablet mode style on 10.

Merci and have a wonderful day!

Shawn :)

valinet commented 2 years ago

Windows 8 doesn’t have a Start menu, actually…

ghost commented 2 years ago

Anyways, got it all organized now :) thank you so much for making my wish come true :)

have a wonderful day!

Thank you so much!!! :)

Good night Shawn

ghost commented 2 years ago

I notice the language on the windows 10 startmenu don`t display in French but in English, like the ``All Apps

valinet commented 2 years ago

This is an issue tracker, not a chat. Furthermore, there is already a thread about this menu where things like these have been discussed. Why not check that out?
