The exact design will depend on the economic relationships. Whether you are purchasing a product or a service.
For example, the way I've done this in the past is as a service or services.
So we created a routing step (which is a process in our system) and the design and any other inputs from us went into it, along with manufacturing and transportation services which we paid for, and the received product or component popped out of the process.
Does that make sense? If so, creating a process now would work well, and we can hook the purchased services up later. I would not call the process Purchasing, but maybe Outside Manufacturing because that is what would be happening. When we get into purchasing, you would be purchasing the manufacturing service. But it doesn't really matter what you call it.
Another possible way to think about it is that the manufacturing process is part of the SENSORICA network, but the manufacturing company is not a member.
SENSORICA purchases components, tools, equipment, consumables, etc. We nee to have a Process for purchasing.
Moreover, some artifacts designed by SENSORICA are manufactured by others, so the design is a Resource made and the Prototype is a Resource purchased.
We can start by simply creating this process and later we can link spending to it. In other words, we can specify the person who did the purchase and the person who payed for it (might be the same person or not). This means to integrate financial contributions into the VAS.
