Improve Thermals? #18

Amazing project btw, helped me solve a bunch of issues including Airport Wi-Fi. I used a different EFI repo before this one and noticed that it ran significantly cooler than this one. Is there something done there that could be applied here to result in better thermals? Where with that one the device would be lukewarm or not at all, this one is noticeably warm.

Hey, thanks for your feedback! I released Version 1.5.1. Does the issue still exist in this version?

tabledrop commented 3 years ago

Even in version 1.4.0, the system always ran toasty. To give you a perspective, running the Intel Power Gadget tool will always run a CPU average of 55 degrees celsius, even when it is idle.

Edit: I am currently on EFI version 1.5.1 Heliport running macOS Big Sur 11.4

I am having the same issue, thermals are worse compared to Windows or Linux.

valnoxy commented 3 years ago

Could you try version 1.5.2 and tell me if the problem still occurs?

narvikd commented 3 years ago

I tried it, and it still occurs, in my case the thermals are the same as the image but the heat seems to be concentrated in the HDD section/palmrest

I don't think T440p reactors explode, but it would be good if they could use the full fan power.

narvikd commented 3 years ago

I have found a temporal solution, you can control manually the fans without a problem using https://github.com/zhen-zen/YogaSMC 's app. YogaSMC is already include in the kexts, you only need to install the APP and the panel config.

what processor are you using? I am using i7-4810MQ and can't keep my processor temp under 70 deg c.

I am using an i5-4210M so that's probably why my temperatures are lower than yours.

I have your latest EFI for Big Sur working. My only issue is the fan is constantly running for literally any task such as opening any browser or just checking email. It's very noisy and runs hot compared to my Mojave Clover setup. Have you been able to improve the thermals? Any idea what is causing it ?

ryadhiprasetya commented 2 years ago

is this issue still not solve? In my case, fan always run even in idle. temperature at 55-70c
