Guidelines for v0.6.8 #98

What are the larger parts that we should focus on for v0.6.8?

My wishlist is:
 - More map content. I would like to either do the outdoor maps to the southeast (to Nor City) or further south (to Mount Galmore).
 - Overview map, issue 10
 - Searchable crates, issue 45

How should we do development? Like it is today or should we introduce some
voting mechanism as to what and how things are being implemented?

Starting with v0.6.7, we will release the source code as a zipped package,
since some users have trouble learning SVN. I'm also considering commiting the
nightly changes to this SVN instead of my local SVN repo. Any thoughts on that?

I will be away for two weeks (abroad) during christmas and newyears, so unless
someone else can do the maps, the next release might be delayed somewhat.

Skills would have been nice, but IMO the next release should focus on content:
Maps, Quests, Shops.

Overview map and Searchable crates seem to be reasonable. I would be glad if
the next release would include my movement code as well.

IMO one lead programmer should say whats next. (for example you ;-))
Otherwise everyone would say his issue is important?

I don't think we need the nightlies (my opinion), but the alpa and beta source
code would be nice.

Have a good time in your holidays.

If you are going to be away for an extended period of time the best thing you
can focus on is content, keeping people busy until you get back, at which time
development in other areas can continue.

Oskar,
      I agree with most everything previously posted and all of your proposed implementations. I would like to encourage you to continue the good work you've already supplied to this project, and try to be less concerned with the few who have the time to post in your forum in an effort to customize the game to their liking.
     If you continue with the Zelda like theme, all should go well. I personally would like the implementation of action or event related sound added to the game, but nothing continuously running in the background that would seriously degrade battery life.
     In relationship to quest development, I would like to suggest considering new quests to be developed based on available map content to support at least the short term, or side quests, with hints or additional dialog slowly revealed that supports the main quest.
     Aside from bug fixes and new map content, I for one would like the quest to find and retrieve a Heart Stone to be completed so as to have a more powerful weapon forged for our hero. Currently it seems the Venomous Dagger is a more effective weapon than Flagstone's Pride.
     From what I've assessed from your e-mails, you are a good hearted man that I would like to strongly encourage to proceed with your original vision for this game. I would also like to commend you for allowing suggestions and feedback for all of your supporters of this project.
     I pray you enjoy your time off for the Holidays with your family and friends.

I think adding more than 1 developer would slow down the update cycle as more
coordinating will be needed, but maybe someone else (1 or more) could reduce
your number of tasks by handling quest and/or map creation.
The way I see it, you (Oskar) are the project maintainer, project manager,
lead(/only?) developer, quest creator, map creator, lead(/only?) graphic
designer, graphic editor and community manager (wiki). Thats a lot of roles to
fill, thus time required.

First a little about version numbers (at least how I see them).
1.x.x.x = milestone
x.1.x.x = major
x.x.1.x = minor
x.x.x.1 = bugfix

Ideally every minor should have new content like maps, quests or items.

Now my wish list for v0.6.8:
 - Searchable crates, issue 45
 - Shop updates
   - Enhancement, issue 35
   - GUI, issue 51 (also fixes issue 59)
   - Blinking fix, issue 71
   - GUI & item type fixes, issue 88
 - New items (head, shield, weapon)
 - Movement pathfinder, issue 82 (being able to walk around corners and obstacles without having to click close by)
 - Kept bosses, issue 36
 - Remove non-sellable quest items, issue 54 (related to above)
 - Annoying NPCs, issue 77
 - Combat verbosity, issue 68

It might seem like a lot, but I dont think so.

what would be cool for my thought was that there was a good verse evil kinda
thing.. for an example that u get deeper into hell and u find example lord of
hell and he wants u to turn sides or u gotta defeat him if u were good or
something like fable?

Oskar,

     Additionally, I'd like to request a color change to the numbers on the level progress bar. White numbers on a light yellow bar isn't quite enough contrast to view clearly.
     I have read many requests for the option to "sell all" of a particular item when in a shop, but would like a similar change where the player can specifically enter (by whatever method is simplest for you to code) a denomination to sell as we are all yet to learn what items may be of relevance to collect for future side quests.
     I look forward to hearing of your safe return from your holiday travels.

Comment 7 is now separated into issue 159. Good point.
