Observed this behavior only in 64-bit mode. Modified the 64-bit installer to use passive uninstall and install modes, which automatically handles all un-expected conditions.
I saw one exception dialog appear with 7zip uninstall, but it was eventually closed automatically and the run continued successfully. Otherwise, the uninstall appears to be working now.
Saw "File in Use" error, with "Exit, Ignore, Retry" buttons.
Added handler for extra "Files in Use" dialog.
I have not encountered this failure in weeks.
7zip uninstall failed with a message saying that Windows Explorer was using necessary files (no Explorer widows were open). Clicking Ignore allowed the uninstall to complete.
