Feedbacks about ELAN (how to use the pref settings for CV drop down menus) #21

Hey,

We here in Finland use strongly ELAN 4.9.4 version connected similarly to Signbank for our annotating corpus videos.

We consider how there could see a long gloss holistically on a list, see our example below where can be seen some glosses are uncompleted:

We would hope to see glosses as full letters included.

There are two columns of which the first one is smaller, because of that the gloss names don't always fit in there. I agree that this should be changed, because the gloss name is what the user is mainly looking for. @vanlummelhuizen is it possible to resize the first column to be larger in width?

In the preferences you can tweak the appearance of the CV panel (Edit > Preferences > Edit Preferences... , select CV). You can change the width of the complete edit box as well as the description column.

@henrinie does this help?

@juzza81 From you screenshot it seems you do not use a two column set up. Is that the case? If I test it will show entries of at least 15 characters without a problem. If I could have your ECV (or the public link if there is one) I could test a bit. Pleas also mention your platform (Windows, OSX, ...).

As a side note, your issue concerns an official release of ELAN and therefore it should probably be directed at the main developer of ELAN, Han Sloetjes at the MPI Nijmegen (http://www.mpi.nl/people/sloetjes-han, also see https://tla.mpi.nl/tools/tla-tools/elan/). Issues discussed here are mainly about things in development.

@vanlummelhuizen Thanks, that helped. Sorry for bothering you, I was not aware of such setting as I don't use ELAN (much). @juzza81 if you change the width (percentage) of the first column, you need to reload the elan-file you were editing for the setting to take place.

@vanlummelhuizen And we actually use the two column setup, first one for the gloss, second for comments.

Good. Happy to help. Shall we close this issue?

Great and this really helped us to find more comfortable way to annotate. Thanks for that.

Yeah, let´s close this issue.
