In the latest jar I added spell checking. You can add two types:

Also download hunspell-jna-1.0.jar from https://surfdrive.surf.nl/files/index.php/s/EWwZTh3YzVd8r3b and json-20160212.jar from https://surfdrive.surf.nl/files/index.php/s/7NA7ucV8xv0XDZ3 and put those in the lib directory of your ELAN installation.

Spell checkers can be added by going in main menu to Edit > Edit Spell Checkers... and in the dialog click Add. Choose a spell checker type and the language the spell checker should be linked to and give the appropriate settings. By clicking OK the spell checker is activated and saved.

If you now open a tier with the chosen language as content language in the TextViewer, there are red squiggly lines underneath misspelled words.

Please feel free to come by for a live demo. :)

Languages dropdown -> only language in transcription

vanlummelhuizen commented 8 years ago

Spell checking is now also done in the InlineEditBox.

Spell checking is now done in a separate thread to avoid block user-interface interaction.

The languages dropdown now only shows the languages in the transcription if there is a transcription open. (There is no new jar to download yet, because the file service Surfdrive is offline right now.)

@vanlummelhuizen : I select Hunspell, then Dutch, but what should I do with the Path underneath?

vanlummelhuizen commented 8 years ago

It should contain the path to a local Hunspell dictionary (.dic file). They can be download from several websites (although you have to search quite a bit), e.g. http://www.textcontrol.com/en_US/downloads/dictionaries/

The idea is to include some dictionaries in ELAN when released.

Can't get it to work; let's look at it together on Monday.

It works, in the sense that ELAN starts after I renamed the hunspell jar to 1.0 (from 1.1), I can specify dictionaries, but then the checking behaviour is odd: it finds different errors in the text viewer than in the edit box. The latter is correct, and immediately responds when I create a typo, but this is not marked in the text viewer. The word 'ja' is marked, however. [play, play] It seems only the first word in the third sentence is marked, no matter what, in the text viewer... Different file, new annotations: edit box is correctly marking errors, text viewer part of the errors but not all, in any annotation, not just the third :-)

Unexpected bonus, happy to see: the error marking also works (correctly) in the edit boxes in the timeline viewer.
