Port to android #148

Adding support for the android OS would seem like a sensible choice. With
all the integrated gps systems and google maps, but no decent support for
offline use, the android gps comes up short when actually using it in a car
or such.

If there could be a way to add this functionality to the Google Maps on
android, it would see alot of use and it would be extremely practical.
Just by making it cache all the maptiles when you calculate your route or
when a network is available, this would be the best thing to come to
android phones since.. android :)

I don't know if I might actually be better off suggesting to google that
they nick your code and implement this in Maps for Android.. but I just
hope you guys can make something of this.

All my support, best regards!

Thank you Jonathan

It would be great if we could join forces with the Android team to jump start
this
issue, I personally have no idea where to start, I know that Python can run in
Android via: http://code.google.com/p/android-scripting/ but that is it!

Also I guess we all need the device for testing, troubleshooting and debugging.

You may want to get in touch with the guy working on this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887
This is his "modified" google maps program for android. It has a caching
feature and I know he is interested in your sort of project. He is listed on
XDA as "Brut.all" and if you click his name in the first post, it will give you
some options to contact him.

There is a very nice Java application that I've been using in my BlackBerry
http://www.mgmaps.com/

I got in contact with the developer and the code is currently available at
https://svn.mgmaps.com, licensing terms are GPL...
