I can send information to:

[ ] a handful of individual faculty i know in Forestry, CEOAS, and Public Health and Social Sciences.
[ ] put the events on the OSU Library calendar
[ ] contact the Information Services Research Computing guy (Steve Wolbers) to see if he has a mailing list he can distribute to

Other places we can send this out?

We invite you to OSU's first Hacky Hour! A Hacky Hour is a great, informal way to encourage community members to meet one another, discuss new ideas, and build the social ties that help strengthen any community. The community, here, is researchers, students, faculty, and staff in the Corvallis area who are interested in Open Science, Open Research, and Computational Research. These interests intersect in many ways (tools, methods, skills) and many of us who are interested lack strong community and support.

Come to our Hacky Hour at McMenniman's on Monroe Street, Corvallis OR - February 23 at 5:30. We'll meet up, network, and talk about what projects folks are working on and how a stronger community can help.

Hi Steven,

We have two primary lists of interest: our bioinformatics users' group (BUG, of bioinformatics aficionados); and CGRB community, which is quite a bit larger. No trouble posting stuff to the BUG list, we can also post stuff to the CGRB list if it's well-aligned, though since it's larger (and it's mostly a superset of the BUG list) we try to keep non-CGRB related announcements to a minimum.

I can cover Botany and Plant Pathology graduate students and Corvallis USDA-ARS.

@vantuyls Steve does have a list he could forward to, so +1 on that one.

You may want to ping Bill Smart (bill.smart@oregonstate.edu), a prof in my school who works in robotics. He may have a robotics list he can forward to.

Great, everyone. Does the wording of the message up there look okay? If so (and if i don't hear from anyone before this afternoon) i'll send out a big email to our list.
