Use modals instead of popovers #318

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. The bootstrap popovers do not work well for annotating the scrollable result table or if the content is too large. We should rather use modals.

Describe the solution you'd like Change the variant filtration and result display UI code to use modals instead.

Fixed in Vue.js UI already. Old UI will be phased out EOY 2022.
