This is what you might call "semantic zooming". With Game Piece Images and SVG, it would be possible to define parts of pieces which should be displayed only at some zoom levels. This way we could put text on tokens which isn't rendered at all when the map is zooomed far out, instead of having it be rendered as an illegible smudge.
