unable to get Serial1 working

[misc-protolabs]

Serial0 (port on the R viewed from the top of the board) works as expected for:

• program
• read/write using:
• Serial0.begin( 115200, SERIAL_8N1, 44, 43);

Serial1 shows NO SIGNS OF LIFE for:

• read/write using:
• Serial1.begin( 115200, SERIAL_8N1, 20, 19);
• Serial1.begin( 115200, SERIAL_8N1, 19, 20);

there is continuity between pins [20,19] and the pins on the USB port on the L (viewed from the top)
