Hi @Valachord ! This is not the first request like this. So, I thought about it. Never say never, but for now, I have the bad news for you. Unfortunately, It would require starting a new project from scratch. The new project could be inspired by this extension but the code is gnome-based.
I personally use gnome and I started this project for my own needs because I lacked an application like this:-) I think unless I will stop using gnome (which I do not intend), I will rather focus on one (gnome) version only. I do not want to scatter my focus on multiple and similar projects.
Regarding breaking the extension on gnome updates, I try to follow the latest version of the gnome and provide new versions before release. It is hard to test the extensions reliable on multiple distributions in only one men power:-)
While I'm obviously sad to hear that (as I love the extension), after reading your answer, it's fully understandable!
So, what you're really saying is, someone, somehow, needs to make you switch DE/WM??
Jokes aside, here's hoping that someone out there will either recreate your amazing extension, or, come up with some crazy extension translation, wine-like thing, so that gnome extensions can work on other DE/WMs (if that's even possible). One can only dream
"Only stupid people don’t change their minds." ...a few days back, I started to work on the standalone version. Just for fun:-)! It uses the QT framework, so it could be portable and it could run also on Windows. It is in the beginning. No promises yet and no ETA yet.
Back when I was using ubuntu (using Arch now, btw), this was one of my favorite extensions.
Currently, I'm on qtile, and the one thing I really miss from ubuntu/gnome, is this application.
There are other hue apps out there, but none of them come even close to this one, none of them have scenes imported for example.
Other than wanting to use a tiling window manager, one of my main issues with gnome (besides the amount of bloat) is the fact that on every major update, all of the extensions break. Before switching, it was driving me insane, and I experienced it with this extension as well.
So, I'm wondering, have you thought about creating a standalone version of this, so that both gnome users and other DE/WM users can use it? :)
