Is your question not already answered in the FAQ?

Is this a general question and not a technical issue?

Question

Thank you for this great project! I was hoping I could use this as a hyper back vault location for my DS420+. However after running the virtual DSM and installing hyper backup vault from the package center, I cant access it from my DS420+. It cant find it. Is this function not supported by the virtual DSM?

Its this application I am using: https://www.synology.com/en-us/dsm/packages/HyperBackupVault

Gigabyte BRIX GB-BRR5-4500, ubuntu server 24.04 with portainer Synology DS420+

While I have no answer for you I can say that I'm experiencing exact same thing. I've tried exposing the hyperbackup port but it didn't help.

What do you mean, activate it using synolgoy real sr?

He means the serialnumber / license for Virtual DSM.

How do you connect with Hyper Backup to the other instance? Maybe auto-discovery of the other device doesnt work, but don't you have an option to connect by IP address (I never used Hyper Backup so I have no clue)?

Skyfay commented 1 month ago

Hyper Backup vault does not need to be activated via a Synology account and therefore does not require a serial number from a real nas. The following ports are used for the connection: 6281 (TCP), 5000 (HTTP), 5001 (HTTPS) (HTTP and HTTPS according to the environment. )

Yes, maybe the firewall in DSM is enabled and needs to make an exception for port 6281?

Skyfay commented 1 month ago

I am unsure whether the firewall is activated or deactivated by default. But if so, it is quite possible that you would have to write a rule. It also depends on whether the connection is established via LAN or WAN. Otherwise you need a VPN or port forwarding.
