{Feature Request} Client Mode #12

Hi @pvanloo & @silamon

Andy has posted a question on the Velbus forum asking how he can link his new garage's Velbus network to his main building over a TCP connection. (Apparently, he forgot to run an EIB cable and only has a LAN link)

Jeroend's VelServ can be put into Client mode, which links to another Server instance of VelServ and very effectively creates this solution. (I've tested it, even over the internet from Singapore back to my test rig in the UK)

However Andy doesn't want to use VelServ, as he believes it misses some packets. Not something that I have seen in recent years with faster SBC hardware, but I'm happy to believe Andy has seen this behaviour.

(Also VelServ doesn't have a secure connection method)

Is it possible to create a similar "Client Mode" feature with Velbus-TCP?

The opening post here shows the -c flag that VelServ uses.

This would be very useful for an upcoming client that is renovating a multi building property in southern France, where he only wants to link the buildings using Fibre Optic cables or 5Ghz AirMax WiFi, to insure electrical isolation (a local building regulation, one that is being adopted in the UK too).

Many thanks, Stuart

Would love to see this!

We still don't have any concrete plans to implement this as a feature for python-velbustcp. We'll keep this feature request open.
