Preferences window when using service #217

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
When using the newly added service entries "Extract to...", "Extract to
Desktop" and "Extract to
Current Folder", the preferences window comes up. Also after extracting or when
canceling when
using these services, the unarchiver app stays open.

This is apparently really hard to fix. I've put in a kludge for now, but it's
not going to
solve the problem 100%.

If anyone knows how to detect whether your app was launched because of a
service
request or normally, then please tell me.

Well, I don't really know how it works, but it should not be different from
normally opening the application by
double clicking a archive, right? When I normally open The Unarchiver by
selecting an archive I also do not see
the preferences window, only when I open The Unarchiver by opening the
application directly. When using the
service I assume you open the application using an archive?

If this is not the case, may I suggest an option in the preferences to not
automatically open preferences at all, so
you can avoid the problem all together if you really want to?

The problem is that I get a message right away that the user has clicked a
file, so I can
avoid opening the preferences window, but when the service is started, the
message
arrives some time later. So I have to wait for a while before opening the
window to see if
I get any service message. If I wait too long, I annoy the user, if I wait too
short a time
the message might not arrive on time.

Very frustrating. I hope someone out there knows a better solution.

Did you fix this in version 2.2? Because it does not seem to be a problem
anymore :)

Well, there's the kludge in place, which fixes it some of the time, but it's
not 100%
certain it always works.
