Split files (.001, .002, etc.), request for The Unarchiver to handle the whole process #221

Hello,

Please consider modifying The Unarchiver to handle split files. I currently use
both AJoiner and
The Unarchiver. I would like to have one app complete the whole process of
joining splits and
then decompressing.

Thank you.

The Unarchiver should be able to handle at least some split archive formats
already.
Can you be more specific about what kinds of files you're having trouble with?

I just ran a test using MacHacha. I split a large pdf file using the HJSplit
format. When The Unarchiver tried to join
the split files I received the following message: The contents of the file
"[file name].pdf.001" can not be
extracted with this program. I also tried a mov file that resulted in the same
error message.

You can't currently join arbitrary files, but split zip files should work. What
kind of files
have you had problems with in practice?

Mostly arbitrary. I have had zip files but I can't say I tried using The
Unarchiver to join the segments.

Well, after some thinking about it, I suppose it would be possible to add the
possiblity
to do this. I'll experiment a bit with it.

All right, implemented something.

Try it out once 2.3 is released, and if it doesn't work right, file some new
bugs about it.
