What happened?

When trying to boot to Ventoy with a 32GB Sandisk Drive it only goes to a GNU GRUB 2.0.4 Command line and i cant do anything there.

is there some solution to this? (also this happens on every machine not just the eeepc)

I found out if i change the partition style to gpt now it works, but why mbr doesnt work? the official faq says that 32gb drives work with MBR partition style (https://www.ventoy.net/en/doc_legacy_limit.html)

Can it boot OK in UEFI mode? Maybe because https://www.ventoy.net/en/doc_legacy_limit.html

Now i actually changed the partition style to GPT and now it boots to ventoy with MBR or UEFI I also tried the pc that i showed in the photo in the previous post and now it boots to ventoy (that pc doesnt support uefi)

I Dont know why MBR partition style doesnt work because in the ventoy FAQ (https://www.ventoy.net/en/doc_legacy_limit.html) it says with 32GB drives like mine it should work with MBR and GPT

Try a usb drive that is not faulty or fake

Try a usb drive that is not faulty or fake

i see it is MBR partition style , just changed it to GPT and now it works

steve6375 commented 2 years ago

It should MBR boot with MBR partitions...

JoaquinPro64 commented 2 years ago

It should MBR boot with MBR partitions...

so why GPT partition works with MBR and UEFI but MBR doesnt work with anything

You tried many computers, how many usb drives have you tried?

JoaquinPro64 commented 2 years ago

2 usb's ( 16GB Kingston / 32GB Sandisk ) 2 Pcs (Asus eeepc [only mbr]) and a pre built desktop pc (uefi and mbr) same results, mbr doesnt boot anything, gpt does

Ventoy works for thousands of people on thousands of systems. To MBR boot to Ventoy menu should be no problem as grub2 is used on millions of PC's. So either the Ventoy usb drive was not made correctly, you have buggy usb drives or buggy PC's. To eliminate the buggy pc option, try to mbr booting the Ventoy usb drive under QEMU or on virtual box or VMware VM or as many MBR pcs as possible.

for my case, using GPT partition style makes it work on MBR or UEFI, doesnt matter what pc i use

The issue here is that the MBR partitioned version of ventoy does not MBR boot on your two pcs, it is not about gpt working but MBR partitions not working when it should.
