Almost found the problem. Windows pre-install environment recognised the ISO partition as a volume 0. If I pull out the USB, the C drive is back at volume 0, as it should. Still a weird behavior by default. How do I install windows from it then? Should I pull out the USB too?

What happened?
I wanted to replace GRUB with Windows boot manager on my MBR HDD. Loaded the win10 recovery iso on Ventoy, and fired bootrec /fixboot and bootrec /fixmbr commands. But it affected the Ventoy stick instead, corrupting the iso partition in the process. What did I do wrong? And is it possible at all to use bootrec on Ventoy?
