Second iso from list have problems with display #761

I've had problems with booting Windows installer from ISO, and after few hours I've noticed weird thing: if Windows ISO is first on the list, it boots with no problem, but if it is second, it "doesn't boot". Here is menu: obraz this is what I have for about one minute: obraz and this is how it ends: obraz

After some more digging, I've noticed, that I can press alt+F4 twice and then the Windows installer quits and computer reboots, so it must have worked, despite broken display. Then, I tested gparted ISO (also as the second option in menu), and it doesn't show it's own GRUB menu (same problem a before), but after waiting 30 seconds (or pressing enter) it just chooses default option and after booting, the display works again.

Here is what is shown instead of gparted boot menu: obraz

Again - after moving gparted to the first position in menu (by renaming it), everything works fine.

Please try Ventoy 1.0.36 and do a fresh install to see whether it helps.

ravkr commented 3 years ago

No, it didn't help.

+1 I am having the exact same issue with Windows if it is not the first in the list.

If it is second in the list, but you set it as the default boot entry in \ventoy\ventoy.json - does it then work OK? https://www.ventoy.net/en/plugin_control.html I.e. if you don't press a cursor key (which scrolls/refreshes the screen), then does it work in any menu position. If first in list - then scroll down to item 2, then back to item 1, then boot - does it still work? Did you try connecting a monitor to the external monitor port. Also try the Fn key to toggle monitor output.

I have the same issue with ventoy-1.0.71 linux version. All ISOs boot without issue, only the one in second position does not. If the ISO is in another position it does boot without graphic errors. Tested with multiple differen ISOs (Fedora, Elementary OS, Endeavour OS). Scrolling further down and back up does not change the behavior. After pressing Alt + F4 while the graphic error is on the screen and waiting some time Elementary OS booted fine. Did not try that with the other distros.

+1 I am having the issue similar to ravkr's gparted example with the screen tear when using Ventoy for Windows 1.0.96, if the selected iso is not the first in the list.
