Small side note, I was able to use the system encryption fine on a 2019 iMac. Although I do get the black screen (which doesn't happen on normal PCs, so it is a bug), it boots up normally if you put in your password then press enter twice. You have to press it twice because it asks for your password then your PIM, if you set one.

I have attempted to enter in the password and press enter twice on my macbook, however it doesn't appear to work, no matter how long I wait in-between keypresses or how simple the password is. Trying this with an external disk has no effect.
Expected behavior
The computer asks for a password on startup.
Observed behavior
Computer starts up to a black screen, attempting to type in the password through both the mac's keyboard and an external one does not appear to work. I was able to start up in windows by force shutting down, rebooting the system back to mac and overwriting the EFI partition with a backed up version of the partition.
