vera crypt #958

after windows 11 dev update vera crypt opens but takes about 10 minutes to display file options - reinstalled veracrypt and also seperately windows issue remains

Does one of your drives make take a very long time to spin up or do you have many drives?

Many drives. It's not them. It's definitely windows

When you click on the first vera dialogue box the box instantly becomes unresponsive click again it grey's out. All other windows features remain unaffected. After 10 mins vera opens explorer. I'm Using Ryzen 7 and 16gb ram windows on SSD other drives a mix same scenario with or without external drives connected. Only one file on one external drive encrypted with vera.

Veracrypt for some reason queries all drives when starting. Thus all of them spin up one after another. If you have many drives this can take a long time. Is it faster if you: Start vera Wait until dialog opens Close vera Open vera again Wait until the dialog is ready.

If the second time is much faster it's because vera spins up all your drives one after another.

Hi Pete the first time took several minutes,,the second time it opened explorer immediately as you predicted, so I assume one of my drives is starting to fail. Never had the problem until a week ago with the same drives so I will isolate each one and find the one causing the problem. thanks for your help - Nick

Never had the problem until a week ago with the same drives

Multiple hdd in a raw can pretty overheat without cooling system. Try to start using some side software to detect overheat and errors. Not an ad, just most useful software I could find for myself: Hard Disk Sentinel. It have reported one of my hdds started to fail and I could copy it in time. On the next day the drive has complete shutdown.

Hi Pete - just an update. I installed sentinel said all disks good but anyway our of curiosity I removed all drives and re installed windows to a new SSD on M2 PCI vera crypt immediate no probs I re attached all drives - no probs I installed all latest updates no probs turned on insider dev downloaded latest build installed and back to same problem 5 minute wait for diologue box to respond all other systems fine. checked that fast startup was still disabled after new build as advised by vera but no it still takes about 5 minutes for the first dialogue box to respond after which all works as usual so I guess I am stuck with problem until later builds either fix it or no. Did you check the log tab? The app collects info by time pass.

To me it sounds like an issue that was introduced by the dev channel build then that should be addressed with Microsoft?
