Javascript Uncaught Error when opening Hyper #6962

Closed Kagigz closed 1 year ago

Hi, with Hyper 3.4.3, 3.4.4 on Mac (arm) and the canary version, this is what happened when I opened the terminal:

Uncaught Exception:
Error: exec() failed: No such file or directory

at EventEmitter.<anonymous> (node:electron/js2c/browser_init:161:11120)

Mac OS version: Ventura 13.1

Any idea why that might happen?

Can you add your config as well? Looks like it wasn't able to find the shell executable.

LabhanshAgrawal commented 1 year ago

Also, can you try a build from https://github.com/vercel/hyper/actions/runs/3854997522#artifacts This will help in understanding if the issue is from the pty-node version we're using.

I am having the same issue too. I have uninstalled and installed it numerous times and I still get thesame error. When I tried to edit the hyper.js file using nano editor, an error was thrown that it is a read only file and therefore I cannot write to the file.

This is my config file

@niel98 In your config, is the shell path correct? Shouldn't it be like /usr/... instead of /user/....

niel98 commented 1 year ago

@Kagigz I had the same issue and this is how I solved it:

Uninstall hyper from your command line using brew or move the app to trash. In your terminal and inside the root folder delete the .hyper.js file using the "rm .hyper.js" command. Check if the file has been successfully deleted using "ls -a" in the root folder. When that is done, reinstall hyper again and it should work normally.

niel98 commented 1 year ago

@LabhanshAgrawal that might have been the issue but I have reinstalled it now, I will try modifying the config file again and take your observation into consideration this time around. Thanks

Kagigz commented 1 year ago

The config file was indeed the problem, I copied it from my previous mac and the zsh shell wasn't in the same place (/opt/homebrew/bin/zsh vs /usr/local/bin/zsh). I thought uninstalling Hyper also deleted the config file, but deleting it manually fixed the problem. Thank you!
