Some parts of the Developer's reference manual (in doc/devref) are completely outdated. CVS is no longer in use. The test suite has been rewritten, though it retains the original philosophy. strace is no longer used, while excuting binaries under strace may be a good option to be added. I guess the description of strace as mandatory may be the reason why Debian/Ubuntu lists strace as a dependency for form.
