As described at https://forum.knime.com/t/vernalis-bug-configurable-if-case-switch/72289?u=vernalis the checkbox in the node settings configuration dialog to change the output port to a flow variable port does not take effect if there have been no other changes to the node settings.
There are a number of workaround, all of which are clunky, so we need to find a fix
