IIRC, KDE's Choqok has this feature where user can see the unread tweets in different color backround. Will be nice to have this implemented in Tweetian.

I'm not a big fan of this idea, and I'm not going to work on this, but if somebody works on this I can merge if the implementation is 1) optional feature (behind a setting) 2) No performance overhead

Hmm...IMO, it is consistent with unread mails / messages that're shown in bold. Just for argument sake, I know its not exactly an apples to apples comparison as typically tweets are more for a continuous data stream.
