what if Upgraded Light Replacer #13567

Open Megamaw opened 7 years ago

so the janitor has a lot of neat tools, one of which being the light replacer.

while you can replace broken lights with it, you also very frequently upgrade lights with high-efficiency versions

but the light replacer has a function that's never used, that lets it make its own lights. this is never used because iirc they just make regular lights.

what if science or robotics could make a thing that upgraded the light replacer, ala the janicart upgrade, that allows the glass storage function to instead create HE lights?

Blithering commented 7 years ago

It would be cool if it also had the borg light replacer's function of recycling bulbs in the waste bin back into glass.

Megamaw commented 7 years ago

that'd be neat. but i want to be careful, because I don't want janiborgs to be strictly better than regular janitors, and remove the carbon janitor's current niches.

Blithering commented 7 years ago

Borgs already have that function, I was saying it would be nice if the advanced version for carbons could have it too, for similar reasons to those you stated.

Megamaw commented 7 years ago

oh shit im literally blind

(legally, at least.)

yes PLEASE that'd be a GODSEND

Blithering commented 7 years ago

That would be stepping into engineer territory though. Perhaps as an alternative RCD that could dispense neccesary furniture for rooms like lights, APCs, fire alarms etc.

Blithering commented 7 years ago

It would help with creating rooms from scratch, carrying a regular RCD, a RPD and that would allow you to rapidfire out a fully functional new section of station.

Kurfursten commented 7 years ago

You can print all the circuitboards you need for those things (fire alarms, air alarms, APCs, etc.) on the go with a solder, which is the point of it. It's more than just an autolathe and anti-emag tool!

SonixApache commented 7 years ago

The soldering tool is a greatly underappreciated tool.

Megamaw commented 7 years ago

this is getting a little off topic, but from my eyes, the niches are

engineers: wiring problems (doors, etc), hull breaches, autism building, engines

janitors: maintenance of lights, cleaning, tidying garbage, managing disposals, any maintenance that doesn't require yellow gloves or a hardsuit
