Description

Before $40 for a pack of jerky was insane, now its even moreso

Thought I'd post here what I posted in Discord when asked about prices.

Here's the thinking with food prices. You get a choice:
1/Getmore: Instant, closeby, guaranteed safe food. Expensive.
2/Dan: Instant, closeby, but you get annoying red text and a little toxin. Cheaper.
3/Cargo: You have to wait for it to be delivered and hope Cargo is awake, but it's WAY cheaper. Someone might've done the pizza poison uplink though.
4/Chef: It's FREE, but also on a counter where anyone can poison it, and relies on a chef.
5/Throw Wire: It's also free, but you have to set up a monkey ahead of time or babysit it to get any benefit at all. It's the opposite of convenient like a vending machine is normally.
See how the more convenient and fast it is, the more expensive it is?

I don't disagree with r0b0 and burneddi that the throw wire was a mistake, but it's also not the end of the world either when it comes to food and economics. All the getmore food items (except ramen) are 10*nutriment value, so jerky (4 nutriment) is $40. Ramen was supposed to always be the cheaper option because it required water added (less convenient - again that tradeoff comes into play).

Ultimately when you pay $40 of your $50 paycheck on getmore, what you're paying for is security and convenience.

Don't forget that twinkies have sugar which is potential extra nutriment
