Losing Connection to Centcomm/Nanotrasen #24564

Description of issue

You know that sound that plays when you lose connection to NT so you can't call the shuttle and it plays I want to set the world on fire

Yeah that one.

I would like to submit this file for consideration to possibly replace that.

I still have it in AUP format so it can be modified

Fuzzynut commented 4 years ago

I think this is fun and

Exxion commented 4 years ago

Better idea: Just remove the sound entirely It's way too long and obnoxious for a random event, and especially one that barely does anything

Probe1 commented 4 years ago

It can be both.

Here's a simplified one

should just get nexis to generate a 2019VOX line for it without any memey sound effects "Connection to central command has been lost"

nuklearcellphoneg commented 4 years ago

I sleep sonix apache

Anything, as long as the current sound gets replaced. It is a complete thematic miss. It evokes the fucking end of the world in a nuclear holocaust, not the temporary unavailability of the comms console.

nuklearcellphoneg commented 4 years ago

The OG one is long, loud, and has far too many bells and whistles. It's obtuse. When I initially made this sound file, I followed suit- considering what it is, really, that folks generally dislike about it there is no need to obfuscate this file with fluff.

This is an announcement file. It conveys two things. You're losing your bluespace connection. You can't reconnect it, you have to standby if you wanna connect.

utilitas- commented 4 years ago

I believe it should be in line with all the other announcements, IE using the VOX system (some of which don't have their own announcement). But a little corruption doesn't hurt in this particularly instance. If you were to do this for all the other announcements, I'd take it, but it isn't really necessary. Yours is still better than what we currently have.

That said, you could make some new diffuse ambience sounds. An example would be All customers are requested to make their way to the disembarkation lounge and all of the other ambigen1-ambigen14 files in the ambience folder. (By the way, ambigen1 and ambigen2 are identical for some reason.)

nuklearcellphoneg commented 4 years ago

Get me a compiled list and I will make lots of ambience, I'm only vaguely aware of most of the stuff.
