What might be a better question is not whether or not it's intended, but rather whether or not it should be the case. Considering the silence sting's ONLY purpose is to silence, I don't really think it should allow you to whisper. If we had TG's parasting, whispering would make sense, but we have two separate stings instead.

It isn't retroactive if we banned you for exploiting it in the first place. It'd be retroactive if we banned you for exploiting it AFTER we fixed it.

Even emote code checks if you're silenced. The only exception to communications at all checking if you're silenced or not is whisper. It is clearly unintentional.

I think it should be kept BUT, perhaps add slurring to the speech or something, like struggling to speak. Wouldn't it be cooler to hear someone try and struggle to speak as they get eaten by the changey man?

@Ephx1 The entire reason this is considered an exploit is because you can use a whisper to trigger a suicide vest or an explosive implant while silence stung.

Oh I'm just retarded then and misunderstood. I don't particularly think whispers should contribute to voice activation in the first place, unless you get some sort of device to improve the hearing of one of those devices.

But some sort of slurring should stop that too, right?

Honestly after gbasood mislabeled yet another exploit as not a bug https://github.com/d3athrow/vgstation13/issues/8492 I just decided to delete the account, I spent way to much time reporting and arguing for the betterment of the game for absolutely nothing in return. It's clear it's not desired nor understood so why continue?

I made this account purely to shitpost smileys because it was just a juicy opportunity I would never let go to waste. :^)

I don't agree with TermedClepe's terrible, valid seeking, win-at-all-costs, spiteful as fuck powergaming but like I've been trying to explain to the admins for the past 15 minutes, whispering while silenced IS a feature and has been one for the past 4 years. There has been COUNTLESS of changes regarding whispering while silenced on /tg/ code that baystation eventually merged into the code that eventually became ours. Microphones in radio headsets were removed because powergaming shitters used this FEATURE to fuck lings in the ass.

Whispering while silenced was the only "balance" back when parasting meant you were both paralyzed and silenced, which caused you to get fucked completely by lings 2 minutes into the round. This is not a bug. This has never been a bug.

Anything regarding termedclepe's abuse of this feature is, unfortunately, not against the current rules. If you think it should be changed, please take it to the current headmins.

However if Mister PowergamerClepe keeps his 'le smug shitpost' attitude, maybe we can look further into these accusations of IC in OOC and make sure stays some time away from this place.

Just to let you guys on github know that I lifted Termeds ban considering this is not a bug but what i believe to be an old oversight. Silence sting should silence period now that we have voice activated explosives and whatnot.

Construing something as a feature does not make it one. From a logical standpoint, this doesn't really make sense, either. But that's just my opinion. Let's say "fuck you" to me and pretend that this IS actually feature. Is it a good feature? Not really, it has been shown that it's extremely abusable as well. Is it something people want? No, seeing as nearly nobody even knew about it. Would anyone miss it if it were gone? Maybe someone that incorporated it into their ling powergaming routine.

Seeing all of the above, it would be detrimental not to remove it.

Whispering while silenced is DEFINITELY bug exploiting.

Not only can you trigger suicice bombs, but you can also whisper into any radio that's in your pocket, making the whole suicide sting pointless.
