Staff of change transforms simple mobs into braindead humanoids #9963

Not sure if this is a bug or a feature, really, but last night, a scientist got his hands on a staff of change and rendered a wizard's zombies and skeletons totally helpless by transforming them all into docile catbeasts.

I guess it seemed weird since it was turning a simple mob into something other than a simple mob, thereby removing its AI entirely. It makes me wonder if it'd work on objects animated by the staff of change.

Maybe instead of working as intended, or just not working, it could just randomly cycle them through other simple mobs? So it wouldn't be entirely useless, since it could render something incredibly dangerous into something relatively harmless, but it wouldn't be predictable, either.

One of the many things caused by AI being on the mob level rather than any kind of mind-level

Like Comic said. If say, an admin takes control of a cat then leaves it then the little cat AI will never restart. It's an issue that applies in a lot of instances.

Would probably require a complete rework of mob code to remedy, right?

Literally never happening. We're getting new hats from cargo instead.
