Auto Switch Mode does not work with Privoxy #130

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Add a Privoxy Profile: 127.0.0.1, 8118

2. Add a new rule:
   Pattern: http://www.gametrailers.com*
   Type: wildcard
   Profile: Privoxy

3. Enable Switch Rules.

4. Network tab: Monitor proxy changes=yes, Revert proxy changes=yes.

5. Save.

6. In Chrome go to http://www.gametrailers.com/video/review-pod-mass-
effect/64264?r=1

What is the expected output?
Advertising should be blocked as with standard use of Privoxy.

What do you see instead?
All the Adverts. If you hover over the Switchy icon it says "Active page
proxy: Privoxy" and the Switchy icon is solid blue.

Operating system:
Windows XP SP2

Error Log (chrome-
extension://caehdcpeofiiigpdhbabniblemipncjj/console.html):

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

Switchy works perfectly on gametrailers.com if you directly select the
above created profile "Privoxy" in the Switchy icon drop down menu but the
auto switching mode doesn't seem to work. Otherwise one of the most
professional extensions I've seen :)

I have the same problem (on various target sites, not just gametrailers.)
Auto-switch
doesn't work but manual selection of a specific proxy does work. I confirmed
this
using the My IP extension, which displays my current external IP on the Chrome
exteision buttonbar. Is there an estimated time to fix on this issue?

Same here.
I've tested multiple versions of chromium (7.x - 9.x), rule switching does not
work.
Please fix this... :(

I appear to have found a workaround. Previously the Auto Switch default rule
was set to "Direct Connection" and a single rule created to turn on the Proxy
for one site (the worst offender: gametrailers.com). I've just changed the
default rule to leave the Proxy, Privoxy in my case, turned on and created a
single rule to turn it off for sites with problems. It appears to work.

It just means you have to create further rules for any sites that don't work
well with your Proxy but as there aren't too many its not a bad solution at all.

The above fix stopped working when I turned my machine on this morning. I
changed the following settings to:

Switchy Options > Network > Monitor Proxy Changes > Yes
Switchy Options > Network > Monitor Proxy Changes > Revert proxy changes done
by other apps > Yes

It is currently working again.

I'm not sure if the above changes actually made any difference now but I've
worked out where the problem is. Proxy Switchy does not work in Auto Switch
Mode when you launch Chrome. You have to manually set it to "Direct Connection"
then switch it to "Auto Switch Mode" and it works again. Each time you quit and
launch Chrome its necessary to go through this. There appears to be little
progress or interest in this from the developer which is a shame as its clearly
not working.

I am facing same problem too , directly selecting proxy works where as auto
switch does not work.

My rule settings are
Rule name: Pandora
Pattern: *pandora.com*
Type : RegEx
Proxy Profile: privoxy

@coool.a... if you follow my directions in my last post it will work for you,
albeit a minor nuisance to have to switch it off and on every time you run your
browser.
