[REQ] Multiple query tabs within same connection #1069

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
there is only one query screen. to make another query i need to open another
session window. i'd like to have multiple query windows in a session, like in
TOAD.

What version of Sequel Pro are you using?

version 0.9.8.1

Please check out the latest nightlies from http://nightly.sequelpro.com/
Just press alt+T and you will get a new Tab like the current one (keep in mind
that those are two independent connections).

DO NOT use the nightlies with production servers or they might order an
elephant to your home!
The next production release 0.9.9 will be released within a few weeks.

Connection tabs could have their uses, but multiple query tabs for each
connection has been a feature I've been waiting on for months. I'm fiddling
around with the tabs right now and the biggest benefit to multiple query tabs
isn't available. In other sql tools I can create a query to look at the broad
spectrum of data, go to the next editor tab and while referencing the output of
the first query I can write the second query.

I'm on 0.9.9.

Thanks, the sequel pro team is doing some great work, tabs or no tabs.

Sorry, I don't understand you.
What is not possible with our implementation?

Sorry, I could have been more clear.

http://static.webyog.com/images/screenshots/main_multi.png?version=6 shows
something like what I mean, even if it is a cluttered mess.

The idea is that I need to explore a table with one query, and write a summary
query while looking at the data set from the first. As it stands now, I just
end the first query with a semicolon, begin a new query, and hit the 'Run
Current' button. The drawback of connection tabs is that I cannot see the
result from the first query without copying it out into a spreadsheet.

Thanks again.

OK, I see your problem.
Switching an editor tab should not switch the query results view (meaning
multiple editor tabs should share one connection and thus one results view).

I think this is a good idea seeing that I do this myself when using Benthic
Golden: Creating a new tab to write a query based on the results of the last
query, while still keeping the last query.

Hello developers! Thank u for your great app!
The idea about multiple tabs is fundamental feature for table gui-sql-editors.
I hope u add this function in closest releases, because if u saw to other most
popular gui-sql apps like pgAdmin or MySql Workbench and other u will see this.
Its not a question about best solution, becase its absolutly most comfortable
for all sql developers as starndart. Thak you!

This is the main reason I prefer running SQLyog on wine (yuck) to sequel pro.
In SQLyog you can have multiple editor window tabs on the same connection tab.

Another advantage to this would be that opening a SQL script could open in a
new window instead of replacing the content of the currently open window, which
is a separate issue all together.

I recently finded Sequel.

It's really awesome and really really nice.

But I can't believe that there is just one query editor!!! This is a real lack.
Do you plain to include multiple sql editor tabs?

Sorry Elder - there's only a few of us, and we're only putting in a little
spare time to improve Sequel Pro. In that time we have a lot of features to
add as well as bugs to fix; while I agree this is important, so are multiple
table filters, environment warning signs, more threaded operations, PostgreSQL
and SQLite, syncing, etc... hang in there :)

I'd also love to see this.

In a single connection tab, I want to see multiple tabbed query results "Result
1", "Result 2", "Result 3" etc. then I can run the query two or three times
with different criteria and immediately compare the different result sets. This
is more of a data analysis function for Sequel Pro as opposed to database
management.

Toad MySQL for Windows really does this stuff well. That software has other
shortcomings that Sequel Pro fixes (like running on Windows) but it does get
some stuff right.

You have my vote as well. One of the most missed functions in an otherwise
awesome application

This is the one thing I find myself wanting every time I use SP. Would love to
see this added.

Please add this feature, it's one of the biggest things missing from an
otherwise good product. I'll gladly pay for the tool once it gets this btw. I'm
sure a lot of people would. Until then, same here, I'm paying for and
virtualizing WebYog to get the job done :\

+1 for this feature. The only thing preventing me from switching from Navicat..

Agreed, HeidiSQL also has this feature, and it's a great tool that allows users
to separate out specific tasks, etc.

Thanks!

+1 for this feature, there should be more than 1 query and all these queries
can have different result tables. This way you don't need to run query again
for different queries every time. Also mutliple data filter + multiple data
order in content section will be a big plus but this will be a different
feature request.

I'm all for this feature too. I go back and forth between Sequel Pro and
MySQLWorkbench because it's much more fluid to have multiple tabs within a
connection.

+1. It's a must have. I consider the cmd+t a workaround, which is not really
viable.
