I cannot reproduce this problem; deleting works fine for me in iPhone 4/iOS 4.3.
Can you think of anything that might be different in your usage?
Is the keyboard American English, UK English, or some other international
keyboard?
What is the font and font size? Any kind of experimentation with settings you
can do to see if the problem will go away or come back would be helpful.
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply --
It's a German iPhone w/ the German keyboard layout activated. However, the
error occurs even when I switch to an American/UK (qwerty) type keyboard. The
delete action still exhibits the same behavior -- the program terminates
abnormally.
Some other settings: Font Size 16, Font Georgia, Word completion on, Auto
restore game on launch on. A reset to default settings didn't help; problem
still exists. I even deleted the app and re-installed but to no avail (as I
thought maybe a certain story file that I added might be causing it - but no,
apparently all preinstalled stories are affected).
Can I try something different perhaps?

Hmmm. I'm at a loss. There must be something unusual about your situation
because no one else has reported this and a problem like that should have been
hit by a lot of people.
Did you opt-in to the iTunes question about sending crash data back to Apple?
If you did, I might be able to find a crash log from your crash via Apple, but
there's no way for me to correlate the logs with actual people, so I'd have to
guess which crash it is based on the stack traceback.

Found several crash logs on my Mac after the last sync.
Do you think it is advisable to send one of them to you via email? Or is it
safe to attach to a comment here? Don't know if it contains sensitive info like
IMEI codes and the like...

I'm having this exact same issue with the iPad version of Frotz.
Holding down backspace (delete) works fine, and tapping it with a long pause
between each tap works ok, but rapidly pressing backspace does not work.
Interestingly, I've only experienced this problem since re-downloading the app
from the App Store on Wednesday night, although I was running 1.5 prior to that
as well. I also updated to iOS 4.3 at that point, so maybe there's something
there?
I've also tried resetting to default settings and deleting and reinstalling the
app, tried various font settings as well.
Settings and system info: iPad 1 16GB Wi-Fi version, US keyboard, Font Size 20,
Font Sinhala Sangam MN, text and background color at defaults, word completion
on, story info editing off, auto-restore on game launch. Sync'd to a Dropbox
account.
I believe I have my iTunes set to report crash data, although I'd have to check
the next time I sync. If I can retrieve crash data off my HD and send it, I
would be happy to. Very easy to reproduce on this end, just like the original
poster described.

Yes, please email the crash log to ifrotz@gmail.com. It should not contain any
sensitive information in it, but feel free to inspect it to make sure.
[So far, there are no iOS 4.3 crashes available through Apple's crash reporter.
The latest entries are from March 3, though.]

Thanks for the crash log. I still haven't been able to reproduce the crash
myself, even with the binary of Frotz freshly installed from the App Store onto
an IOS 4.3 device. However, I was able to deduce from the crash log why it is
crashing, and it has to do with calculating the bounding size of the word
autocompletion label when the label is empty. I think that turning off Word
Autocompletion in the prefs should make the problem stop happening (not that
you'd want to do without that :-( ).
I'll try to get a bug fix release in toe App Store in the next couple of weeks
if I can.
It's still a mystery why it's not crashing for me (and apparently, most people)
though.

Sorry please merge 136 into here too, my first time posting couldn't see how to
check before posting... Same issue here on iPad 2. I'll try turning
autocomplete off and report back.

frustrating.

Yes this exact thing happens on my iPad 2 as well, every time that I try to
delete text.

Update: it happens every time that I press the delete key twice in a row...the
first delete works, but the second delete causes it to crash. I can hold the
delete key as someone stated earlier, but then after letting it go and hitting
the delete key once after that it crashes. Thanks for looking into this, it is
very frustrating

Update II: I am sure that some or many of you have seen this, but in the iTunes
description of the game it notes the issue and suggests turning auto-completion
off in the game settings, which works. They have submitted an update to apple.
(settings is found by pressing the "i" next to the game name when playing"

Achtung!
Frotz 1.5.1 is now available in iTunes, with a fix for this problem and a few
other minor issues.

It IS in the iTunes store, but it didn't recognize it as new. I had to
download it specifically. Maybe just timing.
