Offroad icons #74

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Hi,

Just stumbled upon these useful icons while I was searching for some to
include on GoogleEarth maps for: ATV, SUV, Motorbike, campsite, offroad
trailhead, hike trailhead, staging area (ie offroad gathering for
parking), viewpoint, ghost town, mine, rock formation, cabin, spring,
petroglyph etc. In short, most used for mapping offroad locations.

Do you have these on your site that I just couldn't find, or are you
planning on them, or do you know of somewhere I could locate them in
either png or gif format?

Thanks for the help

Hello Bob

Nice to read about your project.
Really ambitious.

We already made a couple of icons you need.
http://google-maps-icons.googlecode.com/files/regroup.png "Gathering" under
"Misc"
category.
http://google-maps-icons.googlecode.com/files/panoramic.png "Viewpoint" under
"Tourism" category
http://google-maps-icons.googlecode.com/files/hiking.png "Hiking" under
"Sports" category

I accept your suggestions :
 * ATV : under Sports category / red
 * SUV : under Sports category / red
 * Motorbike : under Sports category / red
 * Campsite : under Tourism category / green
 * Offroad trailhead : under Sports category / red
 * Ghost town : under Tourism category / green
 * Mine : under Tourism category / green
 * Rock formation : under Tourism category / green

I have some doubts about (english is not my first language) :
 * Cabin : is it just a shaft ? : under Tourism category / green
 * Spring : a source of water ?  : under Tourism category / green
 * Petroglyph : rock engravings ?  : under Tourism category / green

You guessed it, the above suggestions don't existing and need to be done for
this
project.
Our project member Matthias is working hard for the Tourism green category, and
may
contribute soon or later.

I am planning anything for this open source project.
I will create them someday, but as I already said to someone, donations help to
speed
the things up :)

Keep in touch
Regards

Matthias, what do you think about my categorization ?

Original comment by nico.mol...@gmail.com on 11 Sep 2009 at 3:09

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
I agree with all your categorizations. A Cabin is like a small house. Could be
a
shelter when you are out hiking... Caravan, Tent, Cabin should all be the
same, so
Green //Matthias

Yeah, I was meaning shelter, not shaft ^^ ... my bad.

Allright, I added the 3 to [TourismIcons] page.

I'm gratified to see that you took my email seriously.
The list that I gave was just off the top of my head and wasn't meant to be
inclusive. I'll put some thought into it and see if I can come up with a more
definitive list of thost that I use the most often.

If you have looked at my site - you can see that I produce a lot of free maps
for
offroading purposes. I have gathered a number of icons from all over the place
to
use - but they by no means look "unified" or a similar style. It would be nice
to
have some that showed the correct meanings but looked like they were meant to
be
together. I'll attach some of the ones I use currently (some I have made
myself)
when I get some more time at this computer.

thanks again for your interest and help.

We take this project seriously even if it's just a free-time project, for fun
and all.

We agreed on the suggestions list, right, but we cannot garanty a release date
of the
icons, ok ?
Check the site soon, or subscribe to the new RSS feed !

Nico... I'm not sure what your last message was responding to - am I reading
into it
that you are upset at something???

If so, you may need to reread what I actually wrote.

FYI, once I knew you guys were interested, I said that I would be putting
together a
file of the mish-mash of symbols which I currently use for the categories I
gave you
(which, obviously, I am not completely satisfied with). I don't get on this
computer
very much so will be sending them shortly - just so that you can puruse them so
you
could better understand what I was meaning - not that you had to use them, or
that I
even WANTED you to use them.

OR, are you meaning that I am the one who should "hurry up" and send the files?
OR,
are you upset that I might be making a suggestion?

Whichever way, both you and I will do the best we can and hopefully augment
each
others goals. If not, well I have to eventually do it one way or the other and
I'd
be happy if it helped you. If it does fit in with what you all are doing, well
then
that's great too 'cause you guys look like you know what you are doing and I
would
only be guessing.

Hello Bob

Sorry, I wasn't upset at all. It's my lack of communication sometimes.
You did it all right so far :)

I was just confused and looking for answers to your needs (especially for the
trailheads dimaond-circles-squared stuff).

Look, so far, your project needs 3 kind of symbols :
 * Icons for placemarks (motorbike, cabin, mine,...)
 * Trailheads by difficulty
 * "Map coordinate"

So far, I am only sure of the placemarks :
 * ATV : under Sports category / red
 * SUV : under Sports category / red
 * Motorbike : under Sports category / red
 * Campsite : under Tourism category / green
 * Offroad trailhead : under Sports category / red
 * Ghost town : under Tourism category / green
 * Mine : under Tourism category / green
 * Rock formation : under Tourism category / green
 * Cabin-shelter : under Tourism category / green
 * Spring-a source of water : under Tourism category / green
 * Petroglyph-rock engravings : under Tourism category / green

(if you have other needs/ideas, they are obviously welcome)

Where I have been harsh, and I am sorry again, is when explaining how we work :
We agreed on this list of suggestions, it's ok and it can expand later.
Now, Matthias and I know what we have to do.
They are on our todo-list, for sure.
It's just that we cannot plan a release date, because we will do them on our
free-time.
We work priorly on suggestions given by our donators.

Feel free to complete the ideas for your site, because when we will start
working on
this icons, we will have a "global point of view" on the bike/trail world (that
I am
not knowing perfectly!)

Keep in touch !
Regards,

I took the house icon and made some changes so you can see what a cabin looks
like.

Hello James,

I like your cabin icon, and I prefer the smoke one !
It's under Tourism category now.

Thanks again :)
