What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. run the bot
2. chat it a few messages
3. leave it along for a while

I run the bot via ssh console while tunning, once run it will sit online 
happily for some time but will eventually go offline in a few hours and never 
respond until restarted. My ssh session remains indicating the network to the 
box remained. Any hints on getting this fixed?

I see the same issue. I'm thinking of reviving this project due to inactivity 
from 2008? Any with me?

I ended up writing my own implementation of google talk client (on top of 
existing python xmpp lib). Works much much better.
