Display Issues in Kali Linux 2020.4 #113

After a recent minor update in Kali Linux, this theme doesn't display properly. The theme installs fine and is displayed on the grub screen perfectly. But after I choose one operating system, this theme disappears, and the default Kali grub theme is displayed before the OS is booted. I tried reinstalling the theme but the issue remains same.

I suspect this might be that Kali implemented a splash screen, which displays after the GRUB theme. Can you post the output of sudo update-grub?

May be. Due to this weird issue I recently switched to refind which works pretty well for me with customize themes.

There is a script located at /usr/share/desktop-base/grub_background.sh which sets the grub wallpaper. In kali linux this points to /usr/share/images/desktop-base/desktop-grub.png.
