I doubt this is a grub issue - a "normal" (cold) boot, works fine. I can see the background, grub entries, icons, etc. But when I reboot/restart, I don't see the OEM logo like usual, and the screen stays black until the login manager starts.
It's not a huge deal, but regardless it shouldn't happen. I'm still not 100% sure the theme installer is to blame, but when I remove it, it works again (after I've shutdown at least once though, it doesn't work on that reboot, but that's probably due to something still being loaded?). Then I installed the theme again, and yeah, it once again isn't visible on reboot.
