Pardon an automatically-posted pull request; this is a part of Operation Vanguard. Note that this does not guarantee that tests and benchmarks are buildable.

GHC 8.8.1 has been released. Why isn't this PR merged yet?

because 8.8 has been released less than a day ago, and there's no automated testing in place. Once I get 8.8 through my usual channel and/or automated testing for 8.8 is in place through the .haskell-ci then I will get to this ..

There's no certainty that something generated many months ago for an alpha compiler is still relevant today.
