Person counted in the expense even though he pays nothing #3

The person's expense is shown even if he/she paid 0 amount. Should the person be added into the expense if the person's expense is 0 in the first place?

Team's Response

Deliberate design decision - sometimes, friends give other friends gifts or offer to sponsor, but still want to record their involvement. this option gives them the ability to do so.

Reason for disagreement: Would there be any reason to record their involvement? The other friends would not be paying the friend who sponsored/gifted them anyways. This might slightly inconvenience the user when they want to check for how much they owe and realize they don't actually owe anything to one of the friend.
