I have a real need (education app) for the Google TTS engine to support SSML;
particularly the audio/src tag/parameter, the emphasis tag, and the rate
parameter according to the w3.org spec.
I think there's a strong argument for at least the unicode representation of
the IPA.
Strongly recommend

Hello. I have the problem to use phonems and it unfortunately doesn't work. As
I read this post I was asking myself if this was already solved or not? Is the
default tts engine able to read a phonetic alphabet like IPA or XSAMPA? Or are
there other possibilities? Thank you!
